Awesome bit of kit. I’m so glad I went the Salomon ADV Skin 12 over other available brands/types. So many pockets for storage. Love how I can carry up to 2.5L of water. It’s comfy, durable and light. No faults. Highly recommend, definitely worth the few extra $$.
After a chance to test on a few runs including a couple of long runs, the Adv Skin 12 has lived up to expectations. The fit feels great (My chest measurement was borderline between medium and large, I went for a large). In terms of storage, the main back pocket is very roomy but also able to be cinched tight even if not full. This meant the vest was comfortable and gear wasn't moving around even when packed with minimal items. The flap pocket space at the top of the back of the vest is very handy. It fit and securely held a rainjacket, gloves, and buff. Not sure that's the most efficient way to pack the vest but it was very easy just to stuff items in that pocket on the go. The pass through pocket at the back also worked well for holding two extra water flasks. They were easy to access and therefore swap out while running. I was worried about pressure on the valves causing them to leak but this didn't happen. There was also plenty of room in the front pockets, in both the zippered and open sections, and everything felt secure. I find the little trash pocket a bit annoying though because I found I kept having to tuck it back in after grabbing something. I'll probably remove it and just use a zip lock bag for trash which I can tuck further out of the way. So all in all, very happy with this vest. The design (location and style) of storage works really well, with secure space for rarely accessed gear, and plenty of different spaces for gear you need to access more frequently. This layout and the ability to cinch down the main compartment means it works loaded up or carrying minimal gear. Even though I bought this in preparation for longer races I think it will be my default vest for training even when I don't need to carry as much gear. Almost forgot to mention how comfortable it feels, probabley because that's how comfortable I found it, that it wasn't even something I was thinking about. I had no chafing issues after 4 hours even wearing a singlet which meant that parts of the vest were against bare skin. Would definitely recommend this vest.
